TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE
Applying log stain is the best way of protecting your log cabin. The stain seals the logs from absorbing moisture, especially rain and blocks the harmful UV-rays from the sun.
1. CLEAN THE LOG FIRST:
Newer logs have mill glaze, dirt and sawdust, older logs have spider webs and dirt splashes.
Clean it with either manual hand scrubing or use a pressure washer its up to you.
2. BRUSH OR SPRAY ON THE STAIN:
You nees to deliver the stain to the logs.
Make sure you are giving enough stain to the logs, you dont want to starve of their protection.
3. BACK BRUSH THE STAIN:
You need to do the back-brush to the stain, so the stain will not sit on the top of the logs.
In that case the stain will spread into the pores and cracks of the wood.
4. STAY OUT OF THE SUN:
Stain dries very quickly in direct sunlight and makes it difficult to keep a wet edge.
It is best if you stain in a shady side,it also helps to do the staining on a cool day like earlymorning.
5. START AT THE BOTTOM:
Make sure you start staining at the bottom not at the top.
If yoy start at the top the drips will soak into the lower logs and will be visible later on.
If you start at the bottom the drips will mix and blend into the stain alredy applied at the bottom.
6. ALWAYS APPLY A MINIMUM OF 2 COATS:
7. BUY ENOUGH STAIN TO COVER THE ENTIRE CABIN:
8. CONTINUE ITS MAINTENANCE:
Do a regular bi-annual check on your log cabin to make sure its still in good condition.
